Getting to Cofresí, sorted before you land

The resort strip west of Puerto Plata, built around a cove and a marine park. Your hotel is probably behind a gate, so we take the name at booking and meet you at your lobby — at a price agreed before you leave home.

The short version

Arriving by air

Every airport to Cofresí, with the real price

Puerto Plata is the airport for this coast, and the one we quote a fixed price for. The others are over the mountains or across the country — worth knowing before you book a cheap flight into the wrong airport.

One-way private transfer fares to Cofresí, for 1 to 6 guests
Airport Code Fixed price
Puerto Plata — Gregorio Luperón Intl. POP US$48.50
Santiago — Cibao Intl. STI US$98.50
Samaná — El Catey Intl. AZS On request
Santo Domingo — Las Américas Intl. SDQ US$219
Punta Cana Intl. PUJ US$425

Add US$5 per passenger above six. The US$48.50 covers Cofresí and Costambar alike, gated communities included — give us the hotel or villa name when you book. Every price in the table is confirmed and fixed in writing before you travel; only the Samaná fare is still quoted on request, because we will not put a guess on a public page. Prices are per vehicle, not per person.

What happens on the day you land

  1. You send us the flight number

One WhatsApp message is enough — no account, no form, no card details. Tell us how many bags are coming with you and we send the right vehicle. We reply with the price confirmed in writing.

  2. We watch the flight, not the clock

If you land two hours late, the pickup moves two hours later. Your driver waits at no extra cost — delays are our problem, not yours.

  3. Name sign at arrivals, then straight to your door

Your driver meets you inside with a sign, helps with the luggage and drives you to your hotel, villa or apartment in Cofresí. Ask for a supermarket or ATM stop on the way and it costs nothing extra.

Arriving by cruise ship

Amber Cove is the closest pier of all

Amber Cove sits in the next bay along from Cofresí, which makes this the shortest pier-to-beach run on the whole coast — and the easiest half-day if your ship docks there.

Taino Bay → Cofresí

In Puerto Plata city

Taino Bay is in Puerto Plata itself, so the drive to Cofresí goes west out of the city along the coast road. We meet you outside the terminal gate.

Amber Cove → Cofresí

The neighbouring bay

Amber Cove is in Maimón, the bay immediately west of Cofresí. If your ship berths here, Ocean World and the Cofresí beach are the nearest things on the coast to your gangway.

The all-aboard maths, done for you

A typical Puerto Plata port call lasts 8 to 9 hours. From Amber Cove this is the shortest run we do, so almost the whole call is yours on the ground — enough for Ocean World and still an unhurried lunch. We plan every cruise day backwards from your all-aboard time and return you to the pier with a margin, never on the dot.

Why book us

Four ways to get to Cofresí. Here is the honest comparison.

Most of Cofresí is behind a gate, which is where cheap options fall apart: a shared shuttle drops the whole van at one entrance. We take the hotel name at booking and bring you to your own lobby.

Private transfer compared with the usual alternatives from POP to Cofresí
What matters SG Caribbean Airport taxi Shared shuttle Rental car
Price Fixed and confirmed in writing before you travel Negotiated at the kerb, often higher at night Cheap per seat, but usually per person Daily rate plus insurance, fuel and parking
If the flight is late We track the flight number and move the pickup — no extra charge Whoever is still on the rank at that hour The van usually leaves without you The desk may already be closed
Who is in the vehicle Only your group, in a private air-conditioned van Only your group Whoever else booked that run You, driving
Luggage and extra bags Tell us the count and we send a vehicle that fits it — no surcharge Depends entirely on the car that turns up Often refused or charged as an extra seat Only if you booked the right size of car
Paying Cash on arrival in US dollars or pesos — nothing up front Cash, rate agreed on the spot Usually prepaid online Card, plus a security deposit held
Child seats Free — tell us the ages and they are fitted before pickup Rarely available Rarely available A paid add-on

One more thing that does not fit in a table: we live here. Saul, Sariel, Luis and Leuris drive this coast every day, speak English and Spanish, and will tell you honestly which beach is worth your afternoon.

Once you are here

What is within reach of Cofresí

Cofresí is small and mostly residential once you step off the resort strip. Most of what there is to do sits either on its own beach or a short way back towards Puerto Plata.

Ocean World Adventure Park

Marine park

The reason most people have heard of Cofresí: a marine park on the beachfront with dolphin, sea lion and shark encounters, a bird sanctuary and a rainforest walk. It is the standard family day out on this coast, and it is right here rather than an excursion away.

Playa Cofresí

In town

A small cove with the resorts behind it and a handful of beach bars on the sand. Not the biggest beach on the coast, but sheltered, easy to swim from and about thirty seconds from wherever you are staying.

Costambar

Neighbouring beach

The residential neighbour: villas, condos and a long, shallow, very calm beach that fills with Dominican families at weekends. Quieter than Cofresí and a favourite with long-stay visitors and snowbirds.

Puerto Plata & the cable car

Neighbouring city

The city next door, back east along the coast road: Fortaleza San Felipe, the Victorian centre, the Malecón and the cable car up Pico Isabel de Torres. See the full Puerto Plata guide.

Playa Dorada

Resort beach

The other resort cluster on this bay, on the far side of Puerto Plata, with a golf course in the middle of it. Worth knowing about mainly so you do not confuse the two when you book a hotel.

Charcos de Damajagua

Full-day excursion

Limestone pools you climb up and then jump and slide back down, inland from this stretch of coast. The single most requested excursion from any of the resorts here.

Cofresí questions, answered

On the north coast of the Dominican Republic, in Puerto Plata province, on the coast road immediately west of Puerto Plata city. Ocean World is on its beachfront, the Amber Cove cruise pier is in the next bay along at Maimón, and the residential beach of Costambar sits between Cofresí and the city.

US$48.50 one way, per vehicle, for 1 to 6 guests. Each passenger above six adds US$5. That price is fixed and confirmed in writing before you travel — there is no surge, no night rate and no luggage surcharge.

Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata — the same coast road runs between the two, and it is the airport nearly every visitor here uses. Santiago (Cibao, STI) is the alternative, inland beyond the mountains.

Yes, and we do it regularly — but both are on the other side of the country and mean several hours on the road. We quote them on request rather than publishing a figure, because we only publish prices we have confirmed. Ask on WhatsApp and you get a fixed number, and an honest journey time, back the same day.

Both are private shore transfers, and Amber Cove is the closest cruise pier to any beach on this coast — it is in the next bay along. Taino Bay is in Puerto Plata city, so that run goes west out of town. We meet you outside the terminal gate and plan the day backwards from your ship's all-aboard time.

No. There is no Uber or Lyft service in Cofresí, and none on this stretch of the coast. Your realistic options are a pre-booked private transfer, a local taxi negotiated on the spot, or a motoconcho for short hops in town.

Cofresí is the resort side: hotels, beach bars and Ocean World on a small cove. Costambar is residential — villas and condos around a long, shallow, very calm beach, popular with Dominican families at weekends and with visitors who stay for months rather than a week. They are neighbours on the same stretch of coast and our fare covers either.

No. Nothing is paid up front and no card details are taken. You pay your driver in cash on arrival, in US dollars or Dominican pesos. The reservation is confirmed by message, not by payment.

Yes. Tell us roughly when you want to be collected and we come back for you — you are not paying a driver to sit in the car park all day. If you are staying in Cofresí itself the park is on your doorstep; from anywhere else on the coast we can run it as a return trip.

Yes — we operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Flights into Puerto Plata land and leave at awkward hours, and a pre-dawn departure to the airport is an ordinary morning for us. Send the flight time and a driver will be outside.
